Mr. Matthew Monroe Jr. is an A.V. rated Maritime international attorney for over 20 years.
He served the country for two decades as a Marine, he is an educator, sailor and Father of three children.
He also served on different courts, i.e. Superior Court of Appeals Second District and Mediator Court of Appeals.
His goal for LifeSail is to support us in his areas of his expertise.
Matthew Williams Monroe, JR.
Mr. Monroe, an A.V. rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, has in excess of 20 years of national and international litigation, trial and insurance claims management experience, in a wide variety of maritime, product liability, professional liability and casualty matters, including general and corporate counsel experience. He has successfully tried to a defense verdict a number of cases in both federal and state courts of the United States.
Mr. Monroe, a member of the State Bar of California, is admitted before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Military court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the southern, northern, eastern and central districts of California and the United States District Court of Hawaii.
Mr. Monroe was appointed in 1996 as a Superior Court of Orange County, California Judge (Pro Tem) and he served in that capacity until 2001. In 2003 Mr. Monroe was appointed as a Mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. In 2004 he was appointed as a Mediator for the California Court of Appeals Second District. Mr. Monroe continues to act as a Mediator for both the Los Angeles Superior Court as well as the Court of Appeals.
From 1976 to 1984 Mr. Monroe was employed in various undergraduate adjunct professor and undergraduate instructional positions with Golden Gate University of San Francisco, the North Carolina Community College system, as well as the Los Angeles Community College (Okinawa, Japan) where he taught Business Management and Criminal Justice courses. In 2006 after being elected into membership in the International Senior Lawyers Association he taught on assignment, courses in mediation and arbitration at the National Law School in Vilnius, Lithuania. He was recently selected to teach at the Hungarian National Law School in Szeged, Hungary in 2008.
Mr. Monroe is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Institute Society, Virginia Military Institute, the Federalist Society, the United States Supreme Court Historical Society, the Congress of Fellows of the Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, Austria and he also serves as a member of the Republican Board of the U.S. Congressional Business Council where he was awarded the United States Congressional Medal of Merit.

Mr. Monroe retired from the United States Marine Corps. He spent 20 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps. from 1967 to 1987 and 10 years of fleet reserve duty from 1987 to 1997. While in the Marine Corps., Mr. Monroe was employed as a Force Reconnaissance Scout from 1967 to 1970; he became a Counterintelligence Agent in 1970 and was assigned to Mac-V SOG SEAL Team 21 (Counterintelligence) from 1970 to 1971. Mr. Monroe was then employed as a counter intelligence Agent for the United States Marine Corps. from 1972 to 1975 in various assignments. He was then selected and trained for duty as a Special Agent with the United States Naval Investigative Service, and served finally as Chief of Counterintelligence for the First Marine Division.
Mr. Monroe is a certified United States Navy/Marine Corps., PADI and NAUI scuba instructor as well as a Marine Corps. Parachute Rigger and Instructor.
Mr. Monroe received his Baccalaureate Degree from Campbell University in North Carolina with a double major in Political Science and Criminal Justice. He received a Master’s Degree in Business from Pepperdine University of Los Angeles and his Juris Doctorate Degree from National University School of Law in San Diego, California. Mr. Monroe is currently pursuing Post Doctorate Studies in Alternative Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.
Mr. Monroe is a sailor, and he is looking forward advising LifeSail Inc. in business and legal questions, as well as being a part of the LifeSail program, as time will allow him.
